snack /// not so junk food ///meat /// gourmand /// Lyon 2  /// 49 Rue de la Charité /// 10 to 15 € ///////

Who doesn’t love nuggets? Regarding your healthy-lifestyle, maybe that this symbolic snack isn’t the best for your body. For many years, chicken nuggets were considered as one, if not the pillar of junk-food culture. What if I told you that a little restaurant in Lyon decided to strangle this cliché? Mike’s cuisine, in rue Victor Hugo, contradicts over a semi-century of nuggets history…

Hew! Nuggets are only a fast-food thing. It’s disgusting!” Well, you are kind of right… but kind of wrong too. Chicken nuggets are pretty well-known for their reputation as the ever-lasting symbol of McDonald’s influence over in the United States (and even worldwide, to be honest). So much so that the snack is always associated with junk-food culture – and obesity to a certain extent. But, could chicken nuggets be something else than gross food? Is it a curse?

A QUICK HISTORY ABOUT NUGGETS ///

Actually, chicken nuggets were created in 1960’s, in the kitchen of Robert C. Baker – quite the funny name, right? Indeed, McDonald’s isn’t the all-mighty creator of the snack, even if it became, a few dozens of years later, the true king of the nuggets. Their Chicken McNuggets were only commercialized in 1980, thirty years after their creation, unleashing what will be known as a “cooking monster”.

THE NUGGET, A GOOD MEAL ?

Well, catching up with nuggets’ history isn’t a great defence for the snack. Is it doomed to be an unhealthy food for ever? Maybe that Lyon – FYI, the capital of French cuisine – has an idea up their sleeves… In a detour of rue Victor Hugo, Mike – a next-class fast-food – said hell to the no. Nuggets can and will be an enjoyable meal and a true delight to our buds! Their nuggets are completely home-made which is, by itself, pretty remarkable. The chicken is fried in Cajun and paprika spices. The result is breath-taking. Obviously, nuggets are not the only asset of Mike. Their fries, jalapenos, drumsticks and mac’n cheese balls are forces to be reckon with too. Be careful! The restaurant is quite small in size, reserving a table can be quite tricky if you want a night out. But trust us. The menu is as good as it is interesting. Maybe you’ll discover a new facet to the nugget… their gastronomic side.
